The most disturbing headlines in the world today seem to share something in common. Whether in Somalia, Sudan, Pakistan or elsewhere, too often crises stem from a country too weak to control its own territory and protect and provide for its citizens.
In other words, the world's weakest nations now pose the greatest global security threats.
This Stanley Foundation video explores the threat of fragile states as well as possible response options for a country in crisis.

National Public Policy Forum

The Bickel & Brewer/New York University National Public Policy Forum (NPPF) is the only national contest that gives high school students the opportunity to participate in written and oral debates on issues of public policy.
More than 100 high schools, representing 26 states, registered for the 2007-2008 national competition by submitting qualifying essays. The field was first narrowed to 16, and then 8 teams. All teams advancing received cash prizes. The final four schools were given an all-expense-paid trip to New York City to compete in the finals at New York University. Bellaire High School in Bellaire, Texas, took home the grand prize - $10,000 in scholarship money and the Bickel & Brewer Cup.
