PS22 Chorus & Cross Border Orchestra "Can You Hear Me" Jim Papoulis

The PS22 Chorus of 2010 had an amazing opportunity to perform with the inspirational Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland today at the Cross Cultural Youth Festival in Washington Heights! The CBOI has a really incredible backstory, and you can find out more about them here. The chorus sang the beautiful song, "Can You Hear Me" by Jim Papoulis, and were accompanied by the the orchestra for the performance. PS22 was one of several groups performing with the extremely talented youth orchestra. It was an awesome day of collaborations, and the festival included performances from Keltic Dreams and the program featured in the acclaimed documentary, Mad Hot Ballroom.

This time the kids tackle "Gold Dust" from the classic album, Scarlet's Walk, and take it to a whole new place. This is one of my all-time favorite Tori songs (and one of my mom's too.) The kids do it incredible justice. And of course to lighten the mood, at the end of the video we have Justin and Josh performing a rap -- totally making fun of me. As usual..... This has to be the most embarrassing promotional segment for the PS22 Chorus Bonnie Hunt Show appearance.....

http://ps22chorus.blogspot.com In high school, the Bangles were my absolute favorite group, and I thought this song would be a perfect fit for the chorus. This is off their album DIFFERENT LIGHT, which featured the classic eighties anthem "Walk Like An Egyptian", and "Manic Monday" by Prince. This song is unique in the ladies' discography, as it is the only Bangles song penned by all four members . I think our favorite fifth graders sound pretty darn good considering it was only their second time rehearsing this live acoustic version.... And yay for Tashee on the solo!

Yes, I am VERY proud to say that the kids learned this song in one sitting, and it is one of my favorite things I've ever heard. It was a spontaneous decision to learn the song today. I really planned on working on the bounty of new material we've bitten off, but during rehearsal I could tell the kids were fiending for yet another new song. So I looked over my iPod and came up with this song by Bjork called "Joga" off the album Telegram. This is one of my 3 or 4 favorite Bjork songs and man oh man, the kids on this!! Just brilliant. I can't believe how polished this sounds after learning it only today. I'm so happy about this one.
