In this essay I will discuss a problem the students in my Digital Media class addressed and endeavored to help. I will touch on the planning and execution of how we went about helping all that we possibly could. STEP 1 (THE PROBLEM) The students of ACIT are very loving and we wanted to be able to help as many people as we possible could and we wanted to help those who really needed a helping hand. Because of what is stated above we decided to help the poor and the homeless in our community. We wanted to reach as many people as we could in our community because certain areas where we live the impoverished count is rapidly increasing. More and more people in our cities and communities are getting laid off leaving them with no job and no way to support themselves leaving them homeless and left to beg for food and clothes. These are the people that we wanted to reach. Not only did we want to help them but we also wanted to help others to be able to feel good about them by helping us to help others. STEP 2 (PLANNING) The students in our class really came together to come up with an idea to help the less fortunate. We sat in class and really talked about how we were going to complete this community outreach event. It took about 3 to 4 days to just sit down and really plan things out. Our teacher gave us time in class to discuss our ideas which really made a difference. STEP 3 (EXECUTION) The students in my class and I only had three weeks to plan and execute this event. We didn’t think that we would be so successful at first but in the end we had great results. The goal for this food drive was to get willing people to help us help the less fortunate. What we did was hand shoppers green bags and a list of needed foods as they entered the supermarket and while they shopped they could pick out certain items, buy them, and then when they came out of the supermarket hand us the bag. Once we received the bag we put it in a shopping cart and once the shopping cart was full we loaded the food into a truck to be brought over to the food bank. STEP 4 (THE OUTCOME) We are happy to say that the outcome of this community outreach event was phenomenal. In just seven hours on one Saturday we received 1,942 pounds of food to donate to the food bank. We are confident that we have reached many people by completing this food drive.
