"Follow the Drinking Gourd" is an African-American spiritual written during the period of slavery in America. It is a coded set of instructions on how to get to the Underground Railroad. Our Fourth Graders made rain sticks and created an ostinato with other percussion instruments to play along with their rendition of this classic song. This activity teaches: Music Literature, American History, Musical Arranging, Pitch Accuracy, Playing Alone & With Others.
