Celebrate the Chinese New Year with the School District of Philadelphia! The Chinese New Year, also called the Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, is one of the most important traditional holidays celebrated by people who are Chinese, Korean, Hmong, Tibetan, and Vietnamese.
Chinese New Year began Thursday, February 3, and ended 15 days later, on the night of the full moon. The official Philadelphia celebration was celebrated on February 2 at 11 p.m. at the "Paifang" China gate located on 10th Street between Market and Arch streets. To celebrate the coming New Year, residents participated in a "Lion Dance" and parade through Chinatown.
