Thirty LEMS Science Club members were active participants in the Nature Trail Project, a field experience. Focusing on the role of butterflies and hummingbirds as pollinators in the Sand-hills ecosystem, students worked to help establish wildflower plantings along trails located on the McCrady Training Center in Eastover, SC. In partnership with the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, USDA Natural Resources Conservations Service, and SC Department of Natural Resources, the planting mix for the vegetation plots were developed. Because of the experience, students became aware of the relationships in nature that are at work in maintaining a healthy ecosystem.
