Description:
Students from Monroe High School, spent 5 days at a horse farm in Pittsford, NY as they joined A Horses Friend peer mentoring program. This is the last week of a 10 day program entitled â?oRestore Monroe Youthâ?. In the first week, students were trained in restorative practices, including Peace Circles and Community Conferencing. This week, students worked with A Horses Friend peer mentoring program which aims to promote positive values and to increase social competencies. The program goal is to develop future leaders by introducing and promoting peer leadership as a model for life. Students were able to practice the restorative skills learned in the first week. Through assigned responsibilities, horse etiquette, and horseback riding, students experienced nature, learned respect for animals, and worked and played together in a respectful and cooperative way.
