At Armand Larive Middle School, in Hermiston, Oregon, Mr. Doherty's Gold Team Science students begin the school year with the crushed can and "How many drops?" experiments. Later, they compare the freezing points of water and saltwater and separate a mixture of salt and sand. In the meteorology class, students take weather observations and present a live TV weather segment to the school.
