Chocolate Pots de Creme: A Simple and Delicious Dessert

Pots de creme is a classic French dessert that is both simple to make and incredibly delicious. It’s a rich and creamy chocolate custard that is perfect for any occasion, whether you’re serving it at a dinner party or simply enjoying it as a treat at home.

This recipe uses only a few ingredients and requires minimal effort, making it ideal for even the most novice baker. The result is a smooth, velvety chocolate custard that will impress your guests and satisfy your sweet tooth.

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and vanilla extract until light and frothy.
  5. Gradually whisk the hot chocolate mixture into the egg yolks, a little at a time, until fully combined.
  6. Pour the mixture into 4 individual ramekins or a 9-inch baking dish.
  7. Place the ramekins or baking dish in a larger baking pan. Pour enough hot water into the larger pan to come halfway up the sides of the ramekins or baking dish.
  8. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • To make a vegan version, use dairy-free heavy cream and a vegan egg replacer.
  • Serve the pots de creme with whipped cream, fresh berries, or a drizzle of chocolate sauce.
