That's exactly how a team of Nepali climbers felt as they set out to conquer K2 in the winter of 2021. Mingma Gyalje Sherpa: A Leader Forged in the Himalayas
Leading this daring expedition was Mingma Gyalje Sherpa, a man who practically breathes the thin air of the Himalayas. Growing up in the remote Rolwaling Valley, Mingma was no stranger to the allure and danger of the mountains. He witnessed his father, a seasoned guide himself, lose eight fingers to frostbite on Everest. Yet, the call of the peaks was too strong to ignore.

Mingma faced his own harrowing ordeal when his oxygen regulator malfunctioned high on the mountain. Fearing frostbite and with no way to contact his team, he was forced to push forward, his body nearing its limit. As they neared the summit, a decision had to be made: who would have the honor of being the first to stand on top? In a gesture of incredible humility and unity, both Mingma and Nims decided that the summit belonged to all of them, to Nepal. They would reach the top together, as one.
And so they did. Ten Nepali climbers, side-by-side, singing their national anthem as they achieved the impossible. It was a testament to their courage, their teamwork, and the indomitable spirit that thrives in the shadows of the world's highest peaks.
