Remember those awesome fidget spinners that were all the rage? Well, guess what? You can make your own! It's a super fun and easy DIY craft project that lets you unleash your creativity. Get ready to spin your way to fun!
What You'll Need:
- Two pieces of cardboard (cereal boxes work great!)
- A trusty ruler and pencil
- Scissors (remember, safety first - grab an adult for help!)
- A push pin (again, adult supervision is key!)
- Toothpicks
- Four pennies
- Hot glue gun (and of course, an adult to help with this too!)
- Your favorite decorating supplies (think markers, crayons, glitter - let your imagination run wild!)
Let's Get Crafting!
-
Cardboard Cutouts: On your cardboard, measure out a rectangle that's 7 inches long and 2 inches wide. Use your ruler and pencil to draw it out, then carefully cut it out with your scissors. Repeat this step so you have two identical cardboard rectangles.
-
Circle Time: Grab one of your cardboard rectangles. Place a penny near one of the shorter edges and trace around it. Now, place the penny where the lines of your circle meet the edge of the rectangle and trace a half-circle. Do this on both sides of the circle to create a cool oval shape. Cut out this oval – you'll need it later!
-
More Circles: Use your penny to trace out two full circles on your remaining piece of cardboard. Carefully cut out these circles.
-
Making Holes: Remember that pushpin? It's time to use it (with an adult's help, of course!). Carefully poke a hole in the center of your oval shape and each of your circles. You can use a toothpick to make the holes a bit bigger.
-
Decorate Time!: This is where the real fun begins! Grab your markers, crayons, glitter, or anything else you want to use to decorate your fidget spinner. Let your creativity shine!
-
Putting It All Together: Take one of your cardboard ovals and glue a penny to each end on the back side. Let the glue dry completely.
-
Stack It Up: Now it's time to assemble your fidget spinner! Carefully poke a toothpick through the holes in your cardboard pieces. Start with one oval, then add a circle, then the other oval, and finally the last circle. Leave a little space between each piece.
-
Glue It Together: Add a dab of glue to each of the pennies you glued earlier. Carefully press the two oval pieces together and hold them until the glue dries.
-
Final Touches: Push the outside circles down so they're close to the top oval. Glue them to the toothpick and let the glue dry completely. Once the glue is dry, carefully cut off the ends of the toothpicks that are sticking out. Add a little dab of glue to the ends of the toothpicks to prevent any poking.
-
Spin Away!: Congratulations! You've made your very own fidget spinner. Give it a good spin and enjoy!
Tips and Tricks:
- For extra spinning power, try using heavier cardboard or even thin plastic sheets.
- Experiment with different shapes and sizes for your fidget spinner. Get creative!
- Make it a group activity and have a fidget spinner decorating party with your friends!
Making your own fidget spinner is a fun and rewarding project that lets you express your creativity. So gather your supplies, put on your creative hat, and get ready to spin your way to fun!
