Hello Friends,
Check out our Latest session on "Reflection of Light | Bending of Light" based on Snell's Law for Class 10 Physics by Letstute
When the ray light passes from a rarer medium to a denser medium, it bends and this is called refraction or bending of light.
In this experiment, we will be using a moveable laser which will be our source of light, a medium that can be changed to four different options, Glass, water, boiling water and single medium and a target which we can move like this.
In this video, we have studied refraction or bending of light based on the example of early sunrise or also known as apparent sunrise and delayed sunset. Refraction or bending of light happens when sun rays pass from the earth's atmospheric layer to us.
One more thing here to notice is that refraction doesn’t occur only the ray of light passes from rarer medium to denser medium but also happens when it passes from a denser medium to a rarer medium. When we take the refractive index of a medium with respect to vacuum, we get an absolute refractive index.
We have calculated the refractive index based on snell's law. We have also mentioned that when an angle of incidence and the angle of reflection is the same, and this is called a total internal reflection.
The phenomenon occurs if the angle of incidence is greater then a certain limiting angle called the critical angle.
This entire video is based on an interactive 3D simulation called ScholAR, developed by #Escavel.
