This video demonstrates the process you would use to determine the pH of river water using a LaMotte kit 5858-01. pH is the measure of the concentration of hydrogen [H+] ions in a solution. Results will indicate how acidic or alkaline a liquid is. pH is an important parameter because it affects both chemical and biological processes. Most organisms’ range of tolerance is 6.5-8.5. If the pH is outside of this range, organisms can become stressed and their viability decreases.
