Panda Doesn’t Realise She’s Had Twins

In this fascinating video, a Panda mom has given birth to twins but is unaware she has 2 babies. Pandas will often give birth to twins, but rarely do both survive. This video explains how by switching the cubs throughout the day and night, they both will get the care they need from the mother and also receive supplemental formula from the scientists. This will allow both cubs to survive.

This video pairs well with a lesson on endangered species. It provides a springboard for a class discussion about what humans can do to save these endangered species. An activity you could have students do to accompany this video and class discussion is to have them research an endangered species and write a research paper. If you want to make the assignment more challenging, you could have them include possible human interventions, like with the pandas, for repopulation.
