Ladue alum Shardé Sargeant is an Emmy Award winning producer, writer, and filmmaker. Shardé worked her way up from answering phones at ABC News, to working as an Associate Producer, ending up as the Developing Producer for Robin Roberts, co-host of the top-rated Good Morning America show. On this episode, Shardé takes us through her journey and the lessons she learned every step of the way, including the importance of writing and that, "someone is always watching, so act with urgency," she said. Shardé also told the story of the segment she produced when Kobe Bryant announced his retirement from the NBA and using the philosophy of "logistics, creative, and execution" to pull off an amazing interview between Robin and Kobe. Shardé shared stories she produced of the Obamas visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture, as well as the story of a "hidden figure" at the US Navy, which is truly an emotional segment, and prompted action from others. Shardé offered so many media lessons, such as enthusiastically pitching stories, as well as life lessons, such as networking, which any aspiring journalist or filmmaker will want to hear.
