Lesson Plan: A Taste of the Philippines: Kids Try Jollibee's Delights!
Grade Levels: 2-5
Objective:
- To introduce students to the Filipino fast-food chain, Jollibee, and its popular menu items.
- To promote cultural awareness, diversity, and appreciation for different cuisines.
- To encourage descriptive writing and critical thinking about food experiences.
Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.2.3: Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequences.
Materials:
- Jollibee menu items (e.g., Chickenjoy, Jolly Spaghetti, Yumburger)
- Plates, napkins, and cutlery
- Paper and pencils for reflection and discussion
Procedure:
1. Introduction (10 minutes)
- Begin the lesson by discussing the concept of cultural cuisine and the importance of trying different foods from around the world.
- Show pictures or videos of Jollibee and briefly explain its popularity in the Philippines.
2. Jollibee Tasting (30 minutes)
- Serve small portions of Jollibee menu items to students, allowing them to taste and experience the flavors and textures.
- Encourage students to ask questions about the food and share their initial impressions.
3. Group Discussion and Reflection (20 minutes)
- Divide students into small groups and facilitate a discussion on their overall experience with Jollibee's food.

4. Descriptive Writing (30 minutes)
