⁣Lesson Plan: Orange County Zoo Review with Kids

Grade Level: 2-4

Subject: Science / Language Arts

Duration: 60 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.3.2: Determine the main idea of a text and explain how it is supported by key details.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.1: Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g., because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.4.1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grade 4 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.

Objectives:
- Students will learn about the Orange County Zoo and its exhibits.
- Students will engage in critical thinking and express their opinions on their experience at the zoo.
- Students will create a review of the Orange County Zoo, supporting their opinions with reasons and details.

Materials:
- Pictures or videos showcasing the Orange County Zoo and its exhibits
- Informational texts or websites about the zoo
- Writing materials (paper, pens/pencils)
- Art supplies (optional)

Procedure:

1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by discussing the importance of zoos in conservation and education.
- Introduce the Orange County Zoo as a local zoo and explain its significance in the community.

2. Reading and Discussion (15 minutes):
