Max explains the reasons for different weather patterns around the world and introduces concepts to help explain those patterns. He explains the different layers of the atmosphere and the causes and effects of air currents and air pressure.
In this video, Max defines weather as the state of the atmosphere specifically when it comes to the temperature, how wet or dry, calm or stormy, clear or cloudy it is. Weather phenomena primarily happen in the lowest level of the atmosphere called the troposphere. Weather and climate are differentiated by weather referring to day-to-day temperature and precipitation activity and climate refers to the average atmospheric conditions over a long period of time.
Air pressure, temperature, and moisture differences all determine the weather conditions. Weather can be different from place to place depending on the sun’s relationship to those places. Earth’s axis is tilted, allowing sunlight to be at different angles at different times of the year. Because of this, temperatures can range from −40 °F to 100 °F on Earth’s surface.
