Grade Level: 9-12

Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will gain a deeper understanding of the city of Venice, its unique canals, and rich cultural heritage. Students will engage in research, discussion, and creative activities to explore the history, art, and traditions of Venice.

- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.9-10.1.C: Propel conversations by posing and responding to questions that probe reasoning and evidence; ensure a hearing for a full range of positions on a topic or issue.

Procedure:

1. Introduction (5 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by discussing the city of Venice, its unique canals, and its significance as a cultural hub.

2. Research and Note-Taking (20 minutes):
- Provide books, articles, or online resources about Venice's canals and cultural heritage for students to conduct research.

3. Group Discussion: Unveiling Venice (15 minutes):

Built upon a network of over 100 small islands in the Venetian Lagoon, this unique city has thrived for over a millennium, captivating the hearts and imaginations of travelers from around the globe.AttractionsSt. Mark's Basilica (Basilica di San Marco): A stunning example of Byzantine architecture, this basilica is known for its intricate mosaics and rich history. The Piazza San Marco (St. Mark's Square) in front of the basilica is also a major attraction.Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale): A magnificent Gothic palace located next to St. Mark's Basilica.
