Objective: Students will explore chemical reactions and polymers through the creation of balloon popping slime.

Materials Needed:
- Clear glue
- Borax powder
- Water
- Balloons
- Measuring cups and spoons
- Mixing bowls
- Food coloring (optional)
- Disposable gloves (for safety)
- Plastic containers or bags for storing slime

Procedure:

1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Engage students in a discussion about chemical reactions and polymers.
- Explain that they will be conducting a hands-on experiment to create slime using a chemical reaction and explore its properties.

2. Safety Precautions (5 minutes):
- Emphasize the importance of safety during the experiment.
- Instruct students to wear disposable gloves to protect their hands and to handle all materials with care.

3. Balloon Popping Slime Demonstration (15 minutes):
- Demonstrate the process of making balloon popping slime step-by-step:
- In a mixing bowl, combine ½ cup of clear glue and ½ cup of water. Mix well.
- Add a few drops of food coloring (optional) and mix again.
- In a separate cup, mix 1 teaspoon of borax powder with 1 cup of warm water until the borax is completely dissolved.
- Slowly pour the borax mixture into the glue mixture while stirring continuously.
- As the two mixtures combine, a slimy substance will form. Continue stirring until the slime starts to solidify.
- Take a balloon and stretch the opening. Carefully insert the balloon into the slime mixture, making sure it fills with slime.
- Slowly remove the balloon from the slime, tying the opening to seal it.
- Gently squeeze or press the balloon to feel the texture of the slime inside.

4. Independent Experimentation (20 minutes):
- Divide students into pairs or small groups.
- Provide each group with the necessary materials and instruct them to follow the steps demonstrated to create their own balloon popping slime.
- Encourage students to observe and discuss the changes that occur during the chemical reaction and the properties of the slime.

5. Group Presentations and Discussion (10 minutes):
- Have each group present their slime creations to the class.
- Facilitate a discussion about their observations, the chemical reaction that took place, and the properties of the slime.
- Ask questions to promote critical thinking, such as:
- What happened when the borax mixture was added to the glue mixture?
- How does the slime feel? Is it solid or liquid? Can it stretch or bounce?

6. Clean-up and Conclusion (5 minutes):
- Instruct students to clean up their work areas and dispose of any remaining materials properly.
- Conclude the lesson by summarizing the key concepts learned about chemical reactions and polymers through the creation of balloon popping slime.
