⁣Lesson Plan: How to Make a Walking Cute Robot - DIY

Grade Level: K-2

Subject: Science and Arts

Duration: 45 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.K.2: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.1.4: Describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and feelings clearly.

Lesson Objectives:
- Students will learn about basic components and characteristics of robots.
- Students will understand the steps and techniques involved in creating a walking cute robot.
- Students will be able to describe their robot using relevant details and express their ideas and feelings about it.

Materials:
- Craft paper or cardboard
- Pipe cleaners
- Googly eyes
- Markers or crayons
- Scissors
- Glue

Procedure:
1. Begin the lesson by discussing what a robot is and some characteristics of robots. Ask students if they have seen or heard about robots before.
2. Show images or videos of cute walking robots, emphasizing their different designs and features.
3. Explain to the students that they will be creating their own walking cute robot using simple materials.
4. Provide each student with craft paper or cardboard and instruct them to draw and cut out the body of their robot. Encourage them to be creative with the shape and design.
5. Instruct the students to decorate their robot using markers or crayons. They can add eyes, a mouth, buttons, or any other features they want.
6. To create the legs of the robot, fold and cut pipe cleaners into small pieces. Show students how to attach the pipe cleaner legs to the body using glue or by poking holes and inserting them.
7. Once the legs are attached, demonstrate how to bend the pipe cleaners to create a walking motion.
8. Encourage students to personalize their robots by adding googly eyes, buttons, or other decorations using glue.
9. Allow time for the robots to dry and ensure that the legs are secure.
10. Give students an opportunity to share their walking cute robots with their peers. Ask them to describe their robots using relevant details and express how they feel about their creations.
11. Display the robots in the classroom or create a mini "robot parade" to celebrate the students' creations.

Assessment:
- Observe students' engagement and understanding during the creation of their walking cute robots.
- Evaluate students' ability to describe their robot with relevant details and express their ideas and feelings about it.
