⁣Lesson Plan: Easy Recipes Kids Will Love!

Grade Level: K-3

Subject: Home Economics

Duration: 45 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.K.2: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.1.7: Use illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.3: Describe the connection between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text.

Objectives:
- Students will explore and discuss easy recipes that are popular among kids.
- Students will select one recipe and create an informative/explanatory text about it.
- Students will use illustrations and details to describe the ingredients, steps, and final dish.
- Students will understand the connection between following steps in a recipe and achieving a desired outcome.

Materials:
- Pictures or visuals of easy recipes kids will love (such as cookies, smoothies, or sandwiches)
- Paper and writing utensils for students
- Art supplies for drawing or illustrating

Procedure:

1. Introduction (5 minutes):
- Introduce the topic of cooking and the importance of learning about easy recipes.
- Show pictures or visuals of different easy recipes that are popular among kids.
- Ask students about their favorite recipes or dishes.

2. Exploring Easy Recipes (10 minutes):
- Show and briefly discuss a few easy recipes, highlighting their simplicity and appeal to kids.
- Discuss the ingredients, steps, and final outcome of each recipe.
- Encourage students to share their thoughts and experiences related to these recipes.

3. Selecting a Recipe (5 minutes):
- Distribute pictures or visuals of various easy recipes to each student.
- Instruct students to choose one recipe that they would like to create an informative/explanatory text about.

4. Creating an Informative/Explanatory Text (15 minutes):
- Explain to students that they will be writing a text that informs and explains the selected recipe.
- Instruct students to write the name of the recipe and provide some information about it, including ingredients and steps.
- Encourage students to use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose their texts.
- Remind students to include details and be clear in their instructions.

5. Illustrating and Describing (10 minutes):
- Provide art supplies for students to illustrate their chosen recipe and its ingredients.
- Instruct students to describe the ingredients, steps, and the final dish using both their written text and illustrations.
- Encourage students to be creative and make their descriptions as detailed as possible.

- Facilitate a brief discussion on the importance of following steps in a recipe and the connection between the instructions and the final outcome.
