⁣Lesson Plan: Exploring Easy Trails at Snow Canyon State Park in Utah

Grade Level: 3-5

Subject: Science / Outdoor Education

Duration: 60 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.4.2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.3.3: Describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect.

Objectives:
- Students will research and understand the features and importance of easy trails at Snow Canyon State Park.
- Students will write an informative text describing the characteristics of these trails and the benefits of outdoor exploration.
- Students will use language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect in their writing.

Materials:
- Computers or tablets with internet access
- Paper or writing materials
- Snow Canyon State Park brochures or printouts (optional)

Procedure:

1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by discussing the importance of outdoor exploration and physical activity.
- Introduce Snow Canyon State Park in Utah and explain that it offers easy trails suitable for all ages.

2. Research Activity (20 minutes):
- Assign students to research and gather information about four easy trails at Snow Canyon State Park.
- Provide access to computers or tablets with internet access and guide students to reliable sources.
- Alternatively, provide Snow Canyon State Park brochures or printouts for students to gather information.

3. Organizing Information (10 minutes):
- Instruct students to organize the information they gathered into categories such as trail names, trail features, and trail difficulty level.
- Encourage them to take notes or create a graphic organizer to help structure their writing.

4. Writing Activity (15 minutes):
- Instruct students to write an informative text describing the characteristics of the four easy trails at Snow Canyon State Park.
