⁣Lesson Plan: Exploring Sesame Place San Diego

Grade Level: K-2

Subject: Social Studies

Duration: 60 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.K.1: With prompting and support, ask and answer questions about key details in a text.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.K.3: With prompting and support, describe the connection between two individuals, events, ideas, or pieces of information in a text.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.K.2: Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to compose informative/explanatory texts in which they name what they are writing about and supply some information about the topic.

Objectives:
- Students will learn about Sesame Place San Diego and its attractions.
- Students will explore the different characters and shows featured at Sesame Place.
- Students will create an informative poster about their favorite character or show at Sesame Place.

Materials:
- Access to information about Sesame Place San Diego (website, brochures, etc.)
- Poster boards or large paper
- Drawing materials (crayons, markers, etc.)

Procedure:

1. Introduction (5 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by discussing the concept of amusement parks and asking students if they have ever been to one.
- Introduce Sesame Place San Diego as a unique amusement park featuring beloved Sesame Street characters.

2. Information Gathering (10 minutes):
- Provide students with access to information about Sesame Place San Diego (website, brochures, etc.).
- Instruct students to individually read and gather information about the different attractions, characters, and shows at Sesame Place.
- Encourage students to take notes and highlight key details as they gather information.

3. Group Discussion (10 minutes):
- Divide students into small groups and have them share the information they gathered about different characters and shows at Sesame Place.
- Instruct each group to discuss and describe the connection between the characters and their favorite shows.
- Facilitate a class discussion, allowing each group to share their findings and insights.

4. Poster Creation (25 minutes):
- Instruct students to choose their favorite character or show from Sesame Place and create an informative poster about it.
- Provide poster boards or large paper for students to work on.
- Encourage students to draw and write about their chosen character or show, including key details and interesting facts.

5. Sharing and Reflection (10 minutes):
- Allow students to voluntarily share their posters with the class, explaining their favorite character or show at Sesame Place.
- Conclude the lesson by asking students to reflect on what they have learned about Sesame Place San Diego and their favorite attractions.
