⁣Lesson Plan: Exploring the Dinos Alive Exhibit in Los Angeles

Grade Level: 2-4

Subject: Science

Duration: 45 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.3.1: Ask and answer questions to demonstrate understanding of a text, referring explicitly to the text as the basis for the answers.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.3.3: Describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language that pertains to time, sequence, and cause/effect.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.3.2: Write informative/explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.

Objectives:
- Students will learn about the Dinos Alive exhibit in Los Angeles.
- Students will explore and analyze the different types of dinosaurs featured in the exhibit.
- Students will write an informative/explanatory paragraph about their favorite dinosaur.

Materials:
- Access to information about the Dinos Alive exhibit in Los Angeles (brochures, website, etc.)
- Chart paper or whiteboard
- Writing materials (paper, pencils, etc.)

Procedure:

1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by discussing dinosaurs and their fascination with students.
- Introduce the Dinos Alive exhibit in Los Angeles and explain that they will be learning about the different types of dinosaurs featured in the exhibit.

2. Information Gathering (15 minutes):
- Provide students with access to information about the Dinos Alive exhibit (brochures, website, etc.).
- Instruct students to individually read and gather information about the different types of dinosaurs showcased in the exhibit.
- Encourage students to take notes and highlight key details as they gather information.

3. Group Discussion (10 minutes):
- Divide students into small groups and have them share the information they gathered about different dinosaurs.
- Instruct each group to discuss and analyze the characteristics, habitats, and interesting facts about their assigned dinosaur.
- Facilitate a class discussion, allowing each group to share their findings and insights.

4. Writing Activity (10 minutes):
- Instruct students to individually write an informative/explanatory paragraph about their favorite dinosaur from the Dinos Alive exhibit.
- Remind students to include key details and use clear language to convey their ideas and information.
- Encourage students to refer to the information they gathered and highlight the unique features of their favorite dinosaur.

5. Sharing and Reflection (5 minutes):
- Allow students to voluntarily share their paragraphs with the class.
- Conclude the lesson by asking students to reflect on what they have learned about dinosaurs and their favorite exhibits from the Dinos Alive exhibit.

It is a fun immersion experience to check out. The main path is littered with over 80 life-size animatronic dinosaurs. All the dinosaurs we know and love and plenty of others whose names will shake your reading ability to its core.We were pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed the hour-long experience.
