⁣Lesson Plan: How to Make an Automatic Bubble Maker Machine at Home

Grade Level: 6-8

Subject: Science and Engineering

Duration: 60 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RST.6-8.3: Follow precisely a multistep procedure when carrying out experiments, taking measurements, or performing technical tasks.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.6-8.2: Write informative/explanatory texts, including the narration of historical events, scientific procedures/experiments, or technical processes.

Lesson Objectives:
- Students will learn the basic principles of air pressure and fluid dynamics in relation to bubble making.
- Students will understand the components and mechanisms involved in creating an automatic bubble maker machine.
- Students will be able to explain the steps and techniques used to make the bubble maker machine.

Materials:
- Plastic bottle (empty and clean)
- Small DC motor or fan
- Battery holder or power source
- Switch or button
- Wires
- Bubble solution or homemade bubble mixture
- Scissors
- Tape

Procedure:
1. Begin the lesson by discussing the concept of bubbles and their formation, emphasizing the role of air pressure and fluid dynamics.
2. Show examples or images/videos of different types of bubble machines, focusing on the automatic ones.
3. Explain to the students that they will be creating an automatic bubble maker machine using simple components.
4. Distribute the materials to each student or group of students.
5. Instruct the students to cut a small hole in the plastic bottle cap that is just big enough to fit the small DC motor or fan.
6. Attach the DC motor or fan to the bottle cap using tape or any other secure method.
7. Connect the motor or fan to the battery holder or power source using wires, ensuring proper polarity.
8. Attach the switch or button to control the motor or fan, connecting it to the circuit using wires.
9. Fill the bottle with bubble solution or homemade bubble mixture, leaving some space at the top.
10. Screw the bottle cap with the attached motor or fan tightly onto the bottle.
11. Turn on the circuit by flipping the switch or pressing the button, activating the motor or fan.
12. Observe the continuous stream of bubbles being produced by the automatic bubble maker machine.
13. Encourage students to experiment with different bubble solutions and adjustments to the machine's design to improve bubble production.
14. Discuss the scientific principles involved in creating the bubble maker machine, including the relationship between air pressure, fluid dynamics, and the motor/fan's function.

Assessment:
- Observe students' engagement and understanding during the construction of the automatic bubble maker machine.
- Evaluate students' comprehension of air pressure and fluid dynamics through class discussions and their ability to explain the construction steps.

Common Core Labels Correlations:
