⁣Lesson Plan: The Adventure Challenge - Building Stronger Relationships (Couples Edition)

Grade Level: 11-12

Subject: Health/Relationship Education

Duration: 60 minutes

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.11-12.2: Determine two or more central ideas of a text and analyze their development over the course of the text, including how they interact and build on one another to provide a complex analysis; provide an objective summary of the text.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.1: Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.11-12.1: Initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 11-12 topics, texts, and issues, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively.

Objectives:
- Students will explore the concept of building stronger relationships through shared experiences and adventures.
- Students will analyze the benefits of engaging in activities together as a couple.
- Students will discuss and evaluate the importance of communication, trust, and teamwork in relationships.

Materials:
- The Adventure Challenge: Couples Edition book or sample pages
- Chart paper or whiteboard
- Writing materials (paper, journals, etc.)

Procedure:

1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Begin the lesson by discussing the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships.
- Introduce The Adventure Challenge: Couples Edition book, explaining its purpose in promoting shared experiences and adventures for couples.

2. Book Analysis (15 minutes):
- Provide students with sample pages from The Adventure Challenge: Couples Edition book.
- Instruct students to individually analyze the book, identifying the central ideas and benefits of engaging in activities together as a couple.
- Encourage students to take notes and highlight key points as they review the sample pages.

3. Small Group Discussion (20 minutes):
- Divide students into small groups and have them discuss their findings from the book analysis.
- Instruct each group to identify two or more central ideas from the book and analyze how they interact and build on one another to promote stronger relationships.
- Facilitate a class discussion, allowing each group to share their findings and insights.

4. Argumentative Writing (15 minutes):
- Instruct students to individually write an argumentative essay supporting the benefits of engaging in activities together as a couple.
- Provide a prompt such as: "Write an essay explaining why shared experiences and adventures are important for building and maintaining strong relationships."
- Encourage students to use valid reasoning and relevant evidence from the book analysis and their personal experiences to support their claims.

5. Sharing and Discussion (10 minutes):
- Allow students to share their essays with the class.
- Facilitate a discussion, encouraging students to express their opinions and engage in a respectful dialogue regarding the importance of communication, trust, and teamwork in relationships.

6. Conclusion (5 minutes):
- Summarize the main ideas discussed during the lesson, emphasizing the importance of shared experiences and adventures in building stronger relationships.
- Encourage students to actively seek opportunities to engage in activities together as a couple to enhance their relationships.
