⁣Lesson Plan: The No-Laugh Challenge: 5 Kids Take on the Hilarious Test!


Grade Levels: K-5

Objective:
- To engage students in a fun and lighthearted activity that challenges them to control their laughter.
- To promote social-emotional skills such as self-control, resilience, and a sense of humor.
- To provide an opportunity for students to bond and share laughter together.

Common Core Standards:
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.K.1: Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
- CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.5.1: Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions on grade 5 topics and texts, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.

Materials:
- Funny videos, jokes, or humorous skits (appropriate for the age and sensitivity of the students)
- Timer or stopwatch
- Optional: Props or costumes for added comedic effect

Procedure:

1. Introduction (10 minutes)
- Begin the lesson by discussing the concept of humor and laughter.
- Ask students to share examples of what they find funny and why laughter is important.

2. No-Laugh Challenge (20 minutes)
- Explain the rules of the No-Laugh Challenge: Students must try their best not to laugh or even smile while watching funny videos, jokes, or skits.
- Show a series of funny videos, tell jokes, or perform humorous skits to make the students laugh.
- Use props or costumes to enhance the comedic effect (if available).

3. Timer and Scoring (10 minutes)
- Set a timer or stopwatch for a predetermined time (e.g., 1 minute) for each round of laughter challenge.
- Instruct students to keep a straight face and not laugh during each round.
- Assign a student or teacher to keep score by counting the number of times each student laughs or smiles.

4. Reflection and Discussion (15 minutes)
- After completing the laughter challenge, facilitate a reflective discussion with the students.
- Ask students how they felt during the challenge and if they were able to control their laughter.
- Discuss the importance of self-control, resilience, and the positive effects of laughter on our well-being.

5. Collaborative Activity (10 minutes)
- Divide students into small groups and ask them to create their own funny skits or jokes.
- Encourage students to work together, be creative, and practice their comedic timing.
- Allow each group to perform their skit or tell their joke to the class, promoting a sense of shared laughter and fun.
