Grade Level: 9-12

Subject: Home Economics/Interior Design

Objective: Students will explore their creativity and learn basic interior design principles by creating unique and personalized DIY room decor items.

Materials Needed:
- Cardboard
- Craft paper
- Fabric scraps
- Paint
- Brushes
- Scissors
- Glue
- Hot glue gun
- Ribbon
- Twine
- Picture frames
- Clothespins
- Command hooks

Procedure:

1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Discuss the importance of creating a comfortable and personalized living space.
- Explain that today, students will learn how to make easy and stylish DIY room decor items to add a personal touch to their rooms.

2. Personalized Wall Art (20 minutes):
- Provide cardboard and craft paper to each student.
- Instruct them to cut out shapes or letters from the cardboard and cover them with craft paper using glue.
- Encourage students to paint or decorate the shapes/letters with patterns or designs that represent their interests or personality.
- Discuss how these personalized wall art pieces can be displayed on their walls.

3. Fabric Wall Hangings (20 minutes):
- Give fabric scraps, twine, and clothespins to each student.
- Instruct them to cut the fabric into different shapes or strips.
- Demonstrate how to attach the fabric pieces to the twine using clothespins to create a unique fabric wall hanging.
- Discuss how different fabric colors, patterns, and textures can enhance the overall room decor.

4. Customized Picture Frames (15 minutes):
- Provide plain picture frames to each student.
- Instruct them to paint the frames with their preferred colors or patterns.
- Encourage students to add additional decorations, such as ribbons or small trinkets, to make the frames more unique.
- Discuss the importance of displaying personal photos or artwork in these customized frames.

5. DIY Storage Solutions (20 minutes):
- Demonstrate how to repurpose old jars or containers as storage solutions.
- Instruct students to paint or decorate the jars/containers to match their room decor.
- Discuss different storage needs and how these DIY solutions can help keep their rooms organized and clutter-free.

6. Hanging Wall Organizers (15 minutes):
- Provide cardboard, craft paper, and command hooks to each student.
- Instruct them to cut out rectangular shapes from the cardboard and cover them with craft paper.
- Demonstrate how to attach command hooks to the cardboard to create a hanging wall organizer.
- Discuss how these organizers can be used to hold small items, such as keys, notes, or accessories.

7. Presentation and Reflection (10 minutes):
- Allow students to share their DIY room decor items with the class.
- Ask them to explain the design choices they made and how these items reflect their personal style and interests.
