Subject: Science/Chemistry
Objective: Students will explore the process of creating bubblegum slime using common household ingredients while learning about the concepts of polymers and chemical reactions.
Materials Needed:
- White school glue
- Liquid starch
- Bubblegum flavoring (food-grade)
- Food coloring (optional)
- Mixing bowls
- Mixing utensils
- Measuring cups
Procedure:
1. Introduction (10 minutes):
- Engage students by discussing the properties of slime and its various forms.
- Introduce the concept of bubblegum slime and explain that students will be creating their own using a simple DIY recipe.
2. Safety Precautions (5 minutes):
- Discuss safety precautions, such as avoiding contact with eyes, washing hands after handling the slime, and not ingesting it.
3. Step-by-Step Instructions (20 minutes):
- Provide students with step-by-step instructions for making bubblegum slime:
a) Measure 1 cup of white school glue and pour it into a mixing bowl.
b) Add a few drops of bubblegum flavoring to the glue (adjust to desired strength) and mix well.
c) Optional: Add a few drops of food coloring to achieve the desired color.
d) Gradually add liquid starch to the glue mixture while stirring continuously.
e) Keep adding and stirring until the slime starts to come together and is no longer sticky.
f) Remove the slime from the bowl and knead it with your hands until it reaches the desired consistency.
4. Observations and Experiments (15 minutes):
- Allow students to observe and play with their bubblegum slime.
- Encourage them to describe its texture, stretchiness, and the scent of the bubblegum flavoring.
- Ask students to brainstorm and conduct experiments to test the effects of altering the amount of bubblegum flavoring or food coloring.

- Instruct students to clean up their work areas and properly dispose of any leftover materials.
- Facilitate a discussion on the scientific process and the role of experimentation in understanding the properties of materials.
- Have students reflect on their experience making bubblegum slime and the concepts they learned about polymers and chemical reactions.
